We have indeed enjoyed our holiday at Lake Farm with its wonderful swimming lake very much. You will receive a "printable" version of our feedback in due course. Overall it was a great place for a holiday and Augusto and Claudia were very helpful in replacing sun-umbrellas, lightbulbs, etc. Also the place was spotlessly clean and everything worked very well.

The holiday was a great succes. The setting is really good and the house is very spacious, lots of room for 9 adults. We will have no hesitation in offering a five star recommendation. One of the best holidays on record. The most amazingly restored mill with probablythe largest free natural pool I have ever seen. Swimming with frogs, swifts plucking insects and drinking while in flight. well worth the 6000 km round trip.

A really special place. It seemed huge!  Really well kitted out. The outside space is also wonderful: the swings, hammock, outside table, table tennis, the roof terrace, football pitch and the farm animals, as well as the lake of course. We would definitely consider Lake Farm again.

Our whole party enjoyed their holiday immensely. Claudia and Augusto were most welcoming and helpful and the property was all that we had hoped for. A particular feature of Lake Farm that we had not realised was that its proximity to a junction of the A22 motorway made it an ideal base for travelling in southern Portugal and even Spain. You may find that this is a a feature that you should emphasise in your literature particularly amongst the bird watching facility who would also find the display of swallows of the the lake fascinating; they are of the red rumped variety ( the swallows that is, not the the bird watchers!).  Lake Farm is certainly an ideal combination of  both seclusion and good travel connections. We certainly intend to return to the Algarve and will also consider Jacaranda Holidays and Lake Farm again.  If you have a mailing list, we would be happy to be on it. We had a lovely week in Lake Farm. The house is very comfortable, large and is very well equipped. Due to clever orientation you can always eat outside in the south facing pergola, even when it's a little windy. Fantastic 360 degrees views. Children had a great time at the lake jumping from the pontoon. Photos don't do justice to the beauty of the lake with all the plants and flowers. Augusto and his wife are perfect hosts that were always available to help us. I unconditionally recommend this house to anyone who wants to spend a great time at Algarve.

The´lake farm`is very nice and gives the opportunity to visit the Algarve. We have visited the touristic places but aswell the more authentique zones, such as Fuseta and Tavira. The house is very big and gives enough privacy to everyone who is staying there. The house is very well equiped. It was very clean and in a very good state and well decorated. Our friends have really enjoyed the holidays in Lake Farm. It was excellent!

Lake Farm is a unique and spacious newly-built farm house, with all modern amenities - perfect for family holidays. This 5 bedroom bespoke house is set beside a beautiful 300m2 swimming lake and has far reaching countryside and sea views.

This 2.5 hectare eco-farm has been created by the resident owners, combining a permaculture garden, orchard and small poultry farm along with solar generated energy for a sustainable lifestyle.

What is the outside area like?

Lake Farm is on the site of a traditional windmill, which has been renovated into one of the bedrooms. Exterior stairs curve up and around the windmill and lead to a spacious roof terrace commanding far reaching views across the Algarvean coast. There is a choice of outdoor seating areas…. wooden decking surrounding the swimming lake, a south-facing terrace with a pergola and dining area for 10 people. This terrace leads from the kitchen and living area and opens out to a sand pit and swing area for both children and adults! Enjoy making your own pizzas and bread in the traditional outdoor wood oven.  Lake Farm has a levelled playing field in sand, complete with goal posts!

The natural surrounding area is rocky and herbaceous, abundant with wild thyme, rosemary, cork oak, carob trees, rock rose and in the spring time, wild irises and gladioli.

Swimming in the lake is a wonderful experience for all ages, with a shallow area for younger children to wade and play, supervised. The lake gently deepens to 2m with a wooden pontoon for diving or sunbathing, at the far end. This chemical-free alternative swimming pool is a haven for nature lovers and a constant delight to behold. Regardless of the season, you can relax just observing the wildlife visiting the lake and listening to the sound of the cascading water.

What is the interior like?

Lake Farm has been finished to a very high standard throughout and sleeps up to 10 people in 5 bedrooms. Each room is connected to a central sound system from the living room. There is a TV airing national stations and a DVD player.

The windmill has been lovingly restored into a small sunny bedroom reached by a winding staircase. All the living space is on one level, and easily accessible. Leading from the domed entrance hall is an ensuite bedroom that overlooks the lake. At the end of the hallway are 3 bedrooms, one of which is ensuite, and a bathroom, each overlooking the Algarvean hinterland. All the bedrooms have air conditioning, except the tower room.

The well equipped kitchen with granite worktops opens out to a dining area with a large mahogany table seating 10 people. The light and spacious living room has its own cloakroom and from the ‘music nook’ at the base of windmill, leads up to the windmill bedroom.

There is a laundry room downstairs, in the basement.

Are sun loungers and umbrellas provided?

Eight sun loungers can be used on the lake deck and on the other terraces around the house and garden. There are sun umbrellas, tables and chairs available.

What are the dimensions of the pool? What type of pool cleaning?

The lake measures 300m2 in total, with around half the area planted for the natural water cleansing process. The swimming area has a shallow entrance which gradually leads to a deep end of 2m. The lake has a smooth lining interior, beneath the water rocks divide the planted area from the central swimming area. At the far end there is a small waterfall that circulates the water and a wooden pontoon with steps leading into the deepest part of the lake. The lake is cleaned by the resident owners approximately every fortnight.

How far are the shops and restaurants?

The nearest village of Pechão, 2km away, provides for basic needs, with shops, cafes, a bank and restaurants. The historic small town of Estoi with its roman ruins is 3km away and the coastal town of Olhão, which has all amenities, is 5km away.

How far are the beaches?

The unique chain of beach islands of Armona, Culatra and Farol are just a ferry ride away from Olhão and by car you can reach Fuzeta and Faro beaches in just 15 minutes.

How far are the golf courses?

There are excellent golf courses within 20 to 30 minutes drive from the accommodation. The closest are west of Faro, in Quinta do Lago, Vale do Lobo and Vilamoura.

Is a car recommended for this property?

Yes, especially in the heat of summer…and for reaching all the beautiful and interesting places further afield. Car rental, taxi transfers and bicycle hire can be organized with local reputable firms in advance or by calling the local representative.

Further information

Beyond the orchard and carob trees, in a secluded area with private access, live the friendly young family who tend to the farm, garden and ducks. Further away from the houses, living in their own compounds, are chickens, goats and dogs.

 

Is the accommodation suitable for children?

All ages are welcome at Lake Farm. Children must be supervised, especially by the lake.

What facilities are there for babies and children?

There is a cot and high chair provided. Please let us know if you have any other requirements. A baby-sitting service is available from the owner, who is a qualified music teacher. The owners have 2 children who are between 8 and 9 years old and are very friendly and happy to share their toys!

Is the accommodation suitable for elderly?

Mostly the accommodation is located on the ground floor making Lake Farm suitable for elderly or people with less mobility.

How close are the nearest neighbours? Is the property overlooked?

Lake Farm is not overlooked, the nearest house is 150 metres away and out of sight. It belongs to the owners who reside there, within the grounds and with a separate private access. On the track leading to the entrance gate there is a neighbouring house, 150 metres away.

What type of access it there to the property?

Good tarmac secondary roads connect the nearest villages and towns. The track up to Lake Farm is unmade and leads through the automatic private gateway. The whole perimeter of the grounds are fenced and separated from the area the owners live in and the dogs’ compound.

How quiet is the area around the property?

The location of Lake Farm is quiet, being set on a high elevation overlooking rural small holdings with surrounding Mediterranean woodland and scrubland, used for grazing goats.

Is smoking permitted?

Ashtrays are provided for smoking outside the property.

Are pets allowed at the accommodation?

Due to the animals living within the grounds, we would rather not allow pets.

Which is the changeover day and time?

Flexible, though we aim to keep bookings as close as possible. Departure is by 10am and arrival is from 4pm unless otherwise arranged.

Are linen, bath towels and beach towels provided?

Yes, we provide a once weekly linen and bathroom towel change including a clean of the bathrooms.

Will there be provisions at the accommodation upon arrival?

There will be some toilet paper and soap for arrivals and a hamper of beverages, with additional breakfast and snacks are provided for late arrivals.

Will there be a local representative available on arrival and in the event that we need any assistance?

Guests will be met at the house by the owners, or otherwise informed where to locate the key and visited soon after arrival. They ensure a prompt and competent service and can be contacted at anytime.

In mid season:

700 euros per week for the house with 2 bedrooms, an additional 100 euros for any extra bedroom

1200 euros per week for the house with 2 bedrooms, an additonal 150 euros for any extra bedroom

There is an extra charge of 100 euro per week for the use of the air conditioning.

A breakage deposit of 400 euros is required with balance payment, which will be refunded within one week of departure.
